Reflection: Journal Club Presentation

For the Journal Club Presentation, we were put into groups of three and given a paper to analyse. The paper my group was give was Kinematic adaptations to tripedal locomotion in dogs by Goldner et al (Goldner et al. 2015). Due to our course being part-time everyone on our course lives in different parts of the country which made it difficult to create a presentation together. We decided it was easiest to split the article into three sections and put together each of the sections once we had completed them.
On the day of the presentation, we were group number five to present. As the presentations went on we had realised we had not been critical enough of our paper and decided while we were waiting to present that we would quickly add some more critical points to talk about. It has been shown that presenting later in a group can have its advantages (Chawla, 2010) and in this case, it definitely worked to our benefit. However, because I knew our presentation was not to the standard expected my nerves were higher than normal while presenting which was also likely to affect our mark. Once we had presented and received our feedback, and although we had passed, the comments were as expected and our main downfall was that we had not included enough critical analysis of the paper. Aside from this our overall feedback was good and has given us something to work on.
In the future, I will make sure to do further research into the assignment set to ensure that we have covered all areas required within the assignment.
